What's new in Friday: Task descriptions, custom post categories, and post templates!

Posted by Luke Thomas

Hey there!

I wanted to share another round of updates we've made to Friday to make it easier to work from anywhere.

1. Task descriptions

First up, you can now add a description to tasks that you create in Friday. Many of you have been asking for this for a while and we're excited to finally deliver this to you :)

2. Connect tasks to a goal

In the last update, we shared that goals were now widely available. Now, you can connect a task from any productivity tool to a goal, right in Friday. If you use Todoist for tasks, while a coworker uses Asana, you will be able to use Friday to connect tasks from these two tools and "roll them up" to a single goal, right in Friday.

All connected tasks will show up on the goal detail page (see below), so you can see a history of the work you've put in to hit a particular objective.

This helps you align day-to-day work to the bigger picture and glue your work across systems together in one place.

3. Create your own Post categories

For those unaware, Posts is like an internal blog meets a forum. It's a place to share announcements, proposals, meeting notes, and other information in a categorized, chronological way.

I'm thrilled to announce that you can create your own custom post categories!

For example, at Friday I have a custom category to share a regular "state of the union" post with the entire company every Monday. Chase (Head of Product) will share a weekly product priorities post as well. This helps keep everyone aligned and aware of what's going on. Greg (Customer Success) will share a weekly "state of the customer" post as well.

Over time, these posts can help dramatically accelerate onboarding for new hires, as they can instantly access a running log of important conversations and communication over time. This is valuable context that helps new employees ramp in weeks vs. months of trial and error.

4. Kickstart information capture with Post templates

If you plan on using Posts to capture information in a structured way, we now offer Post templates to kickstart the process. Now, you can create a template to use as the default. Then, when you create a post, the template will be automatically applied, which reduces the need to copy and paste information.

For example, you could create a template to capture 1-1 meeting notes in a structured way. This template can apply for you only, or the entire company. I recorded a video outlining how this works below:

In conclusion

At Friday, we want to be the home for the most important stuff at work that complements existing tools you already use. For you, your team, and your company.

These improvements will help you stay in-sync, aligned, and do your best work from anywhere. If you have any questions or would like a personalized tour of the platform, feel free to drop us a note!
